The eMax 7 is a fully electric MPV, while the Innova Hycross offers a choice between NA petrol and strong-hybrid.
BYD recently launched the eMax 7 in India, replacing the e6 MPV in its line-up. The electric MPV is essentially a facelift of the outgoing model and has no direct rivals. However, the eMax 7 does serve as an EV alternative to the Toyota Innova Hycross. Here, we take a look at how the two rivals stack up in terms of size, powertrain, seating and price.

BYD eMax 7 vs Toyota Innova Hycross: comfort, features
The BYD eMax 7 edges ahead of the Innova Hycross with its bigger, rotatable 12.8-inch touchscreen that controls a majority of the functions as against the Innova Hycross’ 10.1-inch unit. The latter gets a panoramic sunroof, while the BYD EV gets a fixed panoramic glass roof. For the front seats, the BYD eMax 7 offers ventilation and power adjustability; the Innova Hycross has powered second-row seats with extendable leg support. Additionally, the Innova Hycross also offers a dual-zone climate control function and rear window sunshades.

The Innova Hycross offers the choice between a 2.0-litre NA petrol engine making 174hp and 197Nm torque and a 2.0-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine producing 186hp. While it’s like comparing apples to oranges, the BYD eMax 7 has higher power and torque outputs. Given that it’s an EV, the BYD MPV should also be quicker off the line.
