At the launch of the M5 CS, BMW also announced that the i7 was the brand’s best-selling electric vehicle in India, and we have now learnt that earlier this year, the company silently introduced a new variant of the electric luxury sedan. Priced at Rs 2.03 crore, ex-showroom, the BMW i7 eDrive50 has replaced the i7 Xdrive60 variant, which was priced at Rs 2.13 crore. While there are almost no cosmetic changes, it does get a different powertrain. Read on to know what’s different.

  1. Utilises the same 101.7 kWh battery as the xDrive60
  2. Now gets a spare wheel,
  3. 603 Km WLTP range

BMW i7 eDrive50 battery, range and power

The new variant of the BMW i7 utilises the same 101.7 kWh battery as before, however, there’s only a single motor powering the rear wheels rather than an all-wheel drive system. The power output now stands at 449hp and 650Nm compared to the xDrive60’s 544hp and 745Nm. The i7 eDrive60 has a WLTP range of 603km, which is also lower than the older variant. If electric performance is what you’re seeking, you can always opt for the i7 in the M70 spec (Rs 2.5 crore), which ups the power output to 650hp and 1015Nm.

It can be charged from 0-100 percent in 10:45 hours using an 11kW AC charger, but charging from 10-80 percent using a 195 kW DC fast charger takes only a claimed 34 minutes.

BMW i7 eDrive50 features

The new variant of the electric sedan continues to be available in the M Sport trim which give it a leather steering wheel and chrome bits inside and outside. It also gets the rear seat entertainment package which includes the 31.3-inch, 8K ‘cinema’ screen mounted on the roof, soft close doors, Bowers and Wilkins sound system and a whole raft of accessories. However, what’s new on this variant is the presence of a spare wheel, something which was missing on the earlier variant.

BMW i7 eDrive50 rivals

The luxury sedan space in India is not very populated and the i7 continues to have a direct rival in the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan (Rs 1.62 crore) and also rivals the Audi e-tron GT (Rs 1.80 crore) and Porsche Taycan (Rs 1.89 crore).

Do you think the new i7 variant is a sweeter deal than the outgoing one?
