BMW F 900 GS, F 900 GSA launch details

BMW’s middleweight twin-cylinder engine has been bored out to displace 895cc, from the current 853cc motor. The resultant output figures are 105hp and 93Nm, which marks an increase of 10hp and 1Nm. This new motor will power both the F 900 GS and F 900 GSA, which are due to arrive in India.

Let’s start with the F 900 GS, because that is an all-new machine. The F 900 GS looks very different compared to the other middleweight GS models. It uses the same headlight as the G 310 GS and is a much slimmer, off-road oriented machine. While it has the same 21/17-inch (F/R) wheel sizes and suspension travel as the GSA, it weighs 219kg with its 14.5 litre tank fully brimmed.

The F 900 GSA is meant to serve as the road-biased middleweight ADV from BMW and this will be a more familiar motorcycle visually. Another area of difference is the presence of electronic suspension here compared to the manually adjustable units on the standard GS. At 246kg, the F 900 GSA weighs a substantial 27kg more than the 900 GS.

Both bikes get a full suite of electronic rider aids such as riding modes, power modes, traction control, ABS and a bidirectional quickshifter. All this tech is controlled via the standard issue 6.5-inch TFT display we see on most large-capacity BMW models.

Currently, the BMW F 850 GS and F 850 GSA are priced at Rs 12.95 lakh and Rs 13.75 lakh, respectively. Expect these new 900 models to command a premium over these prices upon launch.

All prices ex-showroom, India
