Biggest boot space on scooters in India

The packaging freedom offered by EVs means that this list is dominated by electric scooters.

There are a number of advantages that scooters enjoy over motorcycles, but perhaps the most important one is that they offer a healthy amount of storage space. If hauling things around on two wheels is a priority for you, then this is the list that you’ve been looking for. Here are the top five scooters with the largest boot space currently on sale in India.

River Indie: 43 litres

The most recent entrant on this list has shot right to the top of the charts. Launched just last month at Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru), the new River Indie electric scooter grabbed headlines for many reasons. Its quirky styling grabs eyeballs, and some of the features it comes with are rather unique. However, one of the biggest talking points here is the massive 43-litre underseat storage space, which gives it the biggest boot on any scooter currently on sale in India.

Ola S1, S1 Pro: 36 litres

Though not quite as massive as the Indie’s, the Ola S1 and S1 Pro have rather sizeable boots of their own, measuring a healthy 36 litres. And where they have an advantage over the Indie is in terms of form factor – the Olas have a neat, rectangular boot with a perfectly flat floor. And this nice, regular shape makes them extremely effective when it comes to packing and moving stuff around. The S1 is priced at Rs 1.10 lakh, while the S1 Pro comes in at 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).

Ola S1 Air: 34 litres

Ola has gradually expanded its model line-up over time, offering a little less scooter for a little less money. It recently launched its entry-level offering, the S1 Air, which starts at Rs 84,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru), and offers marginally less boot space than the S1 and S1 Pro. Nevertheless, at 34 litres, it’s still a very significant amount of storage space to have on a two-wheeler.

TVS Jupiter 125: 33 litres

The first and only petrol-powered scooter to feature on this list does so thanks to some clever engineering by the folks at TVS. By repositioning the fuel tank to the floorboard rather than under the seat, like most scooters in India, the TVS Jupiter 125 manages to free up a great deal of underseat space for storage. This results in a rather cavernous 33-litre boot that’s long, wide and deep enough to take two small full-face helmets. Prices for the Jupiter 125 start at Rs 85,525, though we recommend getting the disc brake version, which costs Rs 92,375 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru) and is well worth the premium.

Hero Vida V1: 26 litres

Rounding out this list is the Hero Vida V1 electric scooter – the most expensive scooter here. It is priced at Rs 1.45 lakh for the Plus version and Rs 1.59 lakh for the Pro variant (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). The underseat storage space on Hero MotoCorp’s first electric vehicle isn’t quite as straightforward as the other scooters here as it is split into two compartments, with the combined capacity of these being 26 litres.

Some of you might be wondering why the likes of the TVS iQube ST or the Simple One are missing from this list, despite both sporting 33-litre boots. And that’s because we’ve chosen to limit this list to scooters that are currently on sale, with prices and bookings available. Rest assured that we will update this list as new launches take place.
