Bharti Airtel has launched value added – child safety feature in its home broadband service.

"Children are spending so much time online - for school classes, homework etc. There is a huge amount of exposure of the internet to a child. We at Airtel wanted to address this, so we brought out a value added service - child safety,” Manish Tiwari, Senior VP and CISO at Bharti Airtel said while speaking at the India Mobile Conclave 2021 organised by ETTelecom.

New Delhi: Bharti Airtel has launched a child safety feature in its home broadband service which will allow the users to restrict specific sites for their children.

“Children are spending so much time online – for school classes, homework etc. There is a huge amount of exposure of the internet to a child.

We at Airtel wanted to address this, so we brought out a value added service – child safety,” Manish Tiwari, Senior VP and CISO at Bharti Airtel said while speaking at the India Mobile Conclave 2021 organised by ETTelecom.

“We had launched a pilot last year in some circles but a full rollout has been done this year. This is catching traction with customers as the online exposure for kids has increased manifold since the onset of the pandemic,” he said.

“This service gave our broadband users child safety configuration for their internet traffic. We just gave basic malware online protection, followed by child safety, study mode and work mode.

One can simply change configuration settings from the convenience of Airtel Thanks app. No need to download a separate application,” Tiwari said.

For instance if you want to block specific content like Adult, Social, and Gaming sites, you can select the content type and the system will block all the websites and app falling in that profile. You can view a list of content types for each profile on the Airtel Thanks App.

It allows content filtering i.e block objectionable content (websites and Apps) from the each profile that restricts specific categories of content.

For example, Work Mode restricts ‘Streaming Media’ category and thus blocks sites like Netflix, YouTube, Hotstar etc. Study Mode restricts ‘Games’ category and thus blocks online games. Users can select only one profile at a time.

The feature in the home broadband service can be used even when users are roaming in the country or even outside India.

‘Secure Internet’ feature can be accessed via the Airtel Thanks App when one is connected to an Airtel Xstream Fiber.

The first month subscription is complimentary for the users and minimal monthly charges of Rs 99 (excluding GST) will be added to the bill next month onwards, according to Airtel’s website.
