Benelli TRK 702 revealed; rivals Kawasaki Versys 650 and Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT

The TRK 702 is offered in two guises; a road-biased tourer and an off-road biased ADV.

Benelli has taken the wraps off its latest entrant in the middleweight ADV tourer category, the TRK 702. As patent filings had revealed earlier, the TRK 702 gets front and rear cameras as standard and is available in two variants – a road-biased tourer and an off-road biased version.

Benelli TRK 702: powertrain and underpinnings

Powering the TRK 702 is a CFMoto-sourced, liquid-cooled, 693cc parallel-twin making 75hp at 8,500rpm and 68.2 Nm of torque at 6,250rpm. Both versions that are on offer feature the engine in the same state of tune. The road-biased version runs on 17-inch cast alloy rims with sizes of 120/70-ZR17 and 160/60-ZR17, while the off-road biased version runs tubeless wire-spoke wheels sized 110/80-R18 and 150/70-R17. Both feature the same braking set-up with radially mounted Brembo calipers clamping down on dual discs at the front and a single-piston Brembo caliper at the rear, paired with dual-channel ABS.

Seat height, at 825mm, doesn’t come at the expense of ground clearance, which stands at a respectable 190mm. A generous 20-litre fuel tank should also translate to a real-world range of over 300km on a full tank. All aforementioned dimensions are the same across both models.

Benelli TRK 702: features

While all the specs listed above aren’t anything to write home about, the real ace up the TRK 702’s sleeves are the surfeit of features it offers. To start with, it gets a full-colour TFT display, all-LED lighting and knuckle guards as standard. Features that are its party piece include heated grips, heated rider and passenger seats as well as the inclusion of front and rear HD cameras that record your journey to keep you safe in case of an unforeseen situation. The front camera is located just below the full LED headlamp, while the rear unit is mounted just below the LED tail-lamp. These features are unheard of in categories well above the TRK 702’s, especially as standard equipment, which further cements its case over its rivals.

Benelli TRK 702: price, India launch and rivals

The TRK 702 is priced at the equivalent of Rs 5.40 lakh-5.90 lakh in China and there has been no official announcement regarding its India launch (yet). If it does make its way here, it will have the recently updated Kawasaki Versys 650, Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT and the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 squarely in its sights.

Would you pick the Benelli TRK 702 over its rivals if it made its way here? Let us know in the comments below.
