The composer, who produced songs for more than 650 films in his 4-decade-long career, honestly revolutionised the music of the late 70s-era, all the way through the 80s and well into the 90s. Apart from being the nation’s singing sensation, Bappi Lahiri is fondly remembered for his signature style and love for gold accessories.
Today marks Bappi Lahiri’s 71st birth anniversary. On this special occasion, let’s take a walk down the musical lane of Bappi Lahiri’s best dance numbers.
- Koi Yahan Aha Nache NacheConfess it! You crooned hit lines with just its name right? Well, we did too. This all-time hit number needs no introduction. After all, it was sung by Bappi Lahiri and Usha Uthup. With a pop-jazz vibe, the dance number was inspired by the English pop hit Video Killed The Radio Star (1979) by The Buggles.
- I Am A Disco DancerYet another smash hit by Bappi Lahiri. Released in 1982, I Am A Disco Dancer made veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty a Disco Dancer, in all literal sense. The track still remains fresh in every music lover’s heart.
- Yaar Bina Chain Kaha ReFeaturing Amrita Singh and Anil Kapoor, Yaar Bina Chain Kaha Re is a euphoric vibe every party needs. With electrifying beats and peppy lyrics, the track from the 1985 film Saaheb continues to pull many on the dance floor. FYI: The track was later reprised by Barun Sobti and Shenaz Treasurywala in 2014.
- Tamma TammaBack in 1990, Bappi Lahiri set the house on fire when he delivered his chartbuster Tamma Tamma Loge for Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit’s film Thanedaar. The track was loved by fans to such an extent that later in 2017, it was recreated for Shashank Khaitan’s 2017 hit Badrinath Ki Dulhania by rapper Badshah. Guess what? It was hit again. The recreational version featured Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt.
- Tune Maari EntriyaanWe got to see Bappi Lahiri’s magic with quirky beats again in 2014. With excellent catchy tunes, Tune Maari Entriyaan from Gunday became the current generation’s favourite. And not to skip every party’s must-have. The track featured Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor grooving to foot-tapping beats.
