AWS previews customisation ability of coding assistant CodeWhisperer

Amazon Web Services has announced the preview of new capabilities added to its coding assistant Amazon CodeWhisperer that enables organisations to customise the tool to generate specific code recommendations from private code repositories.

With this feature, developers who pay for Amazon CodeWhisperer Professional tier can now receive real-time code recommendations that include their internal libraries, APIs, packages, classes and methods, the company said in a blog. AWS promises the highest level of protection for these repositories.

In April this year, AWS had made CodeWhisperer available to public. It is an artificial intelligence (AI) coding companion that generates real-time single-line or full-function code suggestions for developers.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy also posted about the new update on X. “Our Generative AI coding companion, Amazon CodeWhisperer, has gotten a lot of early traction, but just got a heck of a lot more powerful with the launch of its new customization capability. The #1 enterprise request is having these coding companions customized with their proprietary codebase (with the right associated access control),” his post read.
A majority of AI coding assistants currently available are trained on open-source software, which limits developers and brings challenges when dealing with large codebases, the blog post added, which CodeWhisperer tackles.
