The meet was held at Grand Hyatt Mumbai which had many prominent personalities and their modern classic cars.
Modern Classics are cars produced between the 1970s and the early 2000s with some exceptions of 10-year-old cars like the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale. The values for modern classic vehicles have doubled over the last four years and have now become highly sought after around the world. The same phenomenon has been witnessed in India.

The season-opening meet for Autocar Modern Classic India was held on September 25, 2022 at the Grand Hyatt Mumbai. A small drive around the hotel was flagged off by Dietmar Kielnhofer, general manager of the hotel, and in attendance was Arun Saraf, owner of the Grand Hyatt Mumbai, along with wife and grandchildren.
An initiative by Autocar India, Modern Classic India is one of the most premium modern classic vehicle group in the country, with an elite group of members and is source for the enthusiast community all over the country. Jagdish Thackersey and his son Abhimanyu drove down in the Mercedes-Benz S123 Turbo Diesel and Aston Martin Vantage S, industrialist Viveck Goenka and his wife Zita brought their Mercedes-Benz S Class (W140) and a rare Toyota Land Cruiser series 80, Jai Ruparel brought his 1970 Aston Martin DBS and Nishant Garodia drove down in his BMW M3. Jonas Pawar and Harsha Apte got their Mercedes-Benz 500SEL and 500SEC, respectively, from Pune specifically for the event.
Curator for the event Perseus Bandrawala mentioned, “The Autocar Modern Classic India group, which had its inaugural drive on September 26 2021, celebrated its first anniversary and what a journey it has been.” He notes that the community has been a catalyst for the everygrowing enthusiasm modern classic automobiles all over the country. “These cars have been bedroom posters for most of the participants”, he added.
Autocar Modern Classic India has planned many such meets and drives for the future and this event was just a season opener. The dates for the Modern Classic Rally, which will be a showcase event for such cars in this part of the world, will be announced shortly.
