Atlee opened up about how Shah Rukh Khan inspired him in more than one way during the shoot of Jawan.
Atlee’s first pan-India film with Shah Rukh Khan Jawan has created a history at the box office. The film which is going strong in its second weekend has already collected Rs 440 Crores and is eyeing a solid third week in its wake. Film-maker Atlee who’ll be shifting his focus to his second Hindi film with Varun Dhawan has now revealed how SRK has inspired him to produce more Bollywood films.
In an interaction with Indian Express, Atlee shared, “Shah Rukh sir inspired me, not just as an actor, but also as a producer. I have learnt the craft from spending four years with him. Now, I have started producing films here (Bollywood). I already produced a couple of films in the south, and now I have started producing all over — producing two in Tamil, two in Telugu, two in Hindi.”
Adding to that, Atlee also teased VD18 with Varun Dhawan, “Regarding Varun’s film, it is going to be a mass film. Can expect the same calibration of mass to the theatre,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Director Atlee has confirmed that he will make Jawan 2 but there is a catch. The filmmaker, in a new interview, said he will return with Jawan 2 only if the script is strong enough to make a film on it. Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan in a double role, concluded with an open ending. The final scene hinted that Shah Rukh will return as Azad and Vikram Rathore, his father-son characters in the film, for yet another heist.
Speaking with Pinkvilla, Atlee said, “Every film of mine has an open end but to date, I have never thought of doing a sequel to any of my films. For Jawan, if anything strong comes to me, I will make a part two. I have kept an open end and I can come up with a sequel now or later. But definitely will come up with a sequel to Jawan one day.”
The filmmaker added that if it was in his hand, he would make a spinoff on Vikram Rathore’s character. “Vikram Rathore for sure. Vikram Rathore is my hero. Maybe one day, I will make a spin-off to that. Let’s see,” he said.
The confirmation about Jawan 2 comes shortly after a KoiMoi report claimed that Atlee has asked his team of writers to pen a script for the sequel. A source told the publication, “Everyone, including Khan Sahib (Shah Rukh Khan), is most excited about the sequel, and Atlee has asked his writers to speed up the process. Sequels are best served up when the original film is fresh in the audience’s mind. Yes, we know the Gadar sequel is creating history twenty-two years after the first film. But that is an exception. Jawan 2 will come while SRK is still jawaan (young).”
It was also reported that Vijay Sethupathi might not return for the sequel. It comes as no surprise, given that his character’s fate in the movie.
