“We will also be coming up with a new version of the Data Protection Bill; a #DigitalIndia Act is also being worked on. We are making the online world more accountable for what is published there,” Vaishnaw said on Monday at the launch of the second batch of Cytrain Setu, an initiative to train law enforcement officials on the latest developments in cyberspace.
Last month, the IT ministry had withdrawn the Personal Data Protection Bill from Parliament and said it was at an advanced stage of drafting a new version.
The new version is likely to be presented before the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha during one of the upcoming sessions.
Senior ministry officials had told ET that the IT ministry was looking at three main aspects, namely the national data governance framework, the new data protection bill and the new IT Act.
Vaishnaw had told ET in an interview that since the old version of the data protection Bill had 81 suggestions for 99 sections, apart from 12 additional suggestions, it had become necessary to withdraw it and replace it with a more comprehensive piece of legislation.
