AR Rahman’s daughters Khatija and Raheema have broken their silence on rumours surrounding their parents’ divorce. Unfounded rumours surfaced after Rahman’s bassist, Mohini Dey, also announced separation from her husband.
Music maestro AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu hit the headlines after they announced that they are separating post 29 years of marriage. Meanwhile, hours after their separation announcement, Rahman’s bassist Mohini Dey also confirmed that she has decided to part ways with her husband Mark Hartsuch. This left many wondering whether Rahman’s divorce has a link to Mohini. However, Saira Banu’s lawyer clarified that there is absolutely no connection. Now, AR Rahman’s daughters Khatija and Raheema Rahman have also slammed those spreading unverified rumours amidst their parents’ separation.
Rahman’s daughter Raheema Rahman took to her Instagram story to share a cryptic post slamming rumours. It read, “Always remember…Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.” Slamming those spreading the rumours, Raheema wrote, “Honestly, get a life.” Meanwhile, Khatija also shared the same post on her Instagram story.
Saira Banu’s lawyer Vandana Shah rubbished rumours, and said that Rahman’s divorce has no connection to Mohini. She told ETimes, “There is no connection at all. Saira and Mr Rahman made this decision on their own.” Further speaking about Saira and AR Rahman’s divorce, she said that every long marriage goes through ups and downs, and that if it has come to an end, she is happy it has been done in a dignified manner. “Both Rahman and Saira will continue to support each other and wish each other well,” she said. She added that their divorce is ‘amicable’ and that there has been no discussion about the financial aspect as of now. “Both of them are extremely genuine, and this decision was not taken lightly. It is not what you would call a sham marriage,” she said.
Announcing his separation from Saira Banu, AR Rahman wrote on X (previously Twitter), “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter. #arrsairaabreakup.”
