Ranbir Kapoor’s recent film Animal has been accused of glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity by several social media users.
Ranbir Kapoor’s recent film Animal has been making headlines for several reasons ever since its release. In a recent interview, actress Anshul Chauhan also opened up about the criticism that the film has been getting for its violence and toxicity. She played the role of Ranbir’s sister in the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial.
Talking about the criticism, Anshul told India Today, “I do realise that this film is not for everyone. I do respect what people have to say about it and they have all the rights.”
She also shared her experience of working with Ranbir Kapoor and added, “Working with them is one thing, and them playing my on-screen family is another thing. The latter felt unreal. Witnessing their finesse and mastery was an experience of a lifetime which I’m really grateful for.”
Released on December 1, Animal revolves around a man and his toxic relationship with his father. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film shows Vijay (played by Ranbir) as an anti-hero who would go to any lengths to protect his father. However, despite his efforts, he struggles to get a seal of approval from his emotionally unavailable father (played by Anil Kapoor). His unhealthy relationship with his father impacts his relationship with his wife (played by Rashmika Mandanna). The film has been accused of glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity by several social media users.
Previously, Sandeep Reddy Vanga attended a promotional event for Animal in Dallas, Texas (USA) when he said, “What I really like about this crowd is that I didn’t hear any questions on misogyny. I’m so happy, you are the right crowd. You saw Animal as a film.” A video of the same went viral on social media.
However, despite everything, Animal is going immensely well at the box office. It is inching close to the Rs 500 crore mark at the Indian box office.
