Siddhant Karnick got candid about Ranbir Kapoor’s character in the Animal pulling on Rashmika Mandanna’s bra strap.
Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri’s Animal continues to achieve new heights every single day. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial which was released on December 1 is inching closer to the Rs 500 crore mark. However, the film also received a fair share of criticism against its themes, with people calling it misogynistic and glorifying toxic masculinity. One of the actors of the film Siddhant Karnick has now opened up about a controversial scene from the film.
Speaking with Bollywood Now, Siddhant who essayed Ranbir Kapoor’s brother-in-law shared his thoughts on one particular scene where Ranbir Kapoor pulls on Rashmika Mandanna’s bra strap and hurts her in the process. He explained, “I understood the kinkiness Ranbir’s character was trying to show with the bra strap. See there are terms called masochism and sadism, which are used in sexual orientation. That showed that Rashmika’s character could be a masochist. She was agreeable to that kind of act.”
He added, “We, as audience, feel that what was happening is wrong. But actually, in cinema, it’s between those two characters and it is right for them. So why are we judging that? They are telling us about the characters and what the characters like, it is up to them.”
Released on December 1, Animal revolves around a man and his toxic relationship with his father. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film shows Vijay (played by Ranbir) as an anti-hero who would go to any lengths to protect his father (played by Anil Kapoor). However, despite his efforts, he struggles to get a seal of approval from his emotionally unavailable father. His unhealthy relationship with his father also impacts his bond with his wife, essayed by Rashmika Mandanna.
Several celebrities including Ram Gopal Varma, Karan Johar, Riddhima Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Allu Arjun among others have also praised Animal. The film has also been accused of glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity by several social media users.
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor will be next seen in Nitish Tiwari’s Ramayana. While he will be playing the role of Ram in this upcoming movie, Sai Pallavi has been roped in for the role of Sita. KGF star Yash is likely to play Ravana in the movie, whereas Sunny Deol is in talks for the role of Hanuman. Ramayana will go on floors next year.
