Thalapathy68 cinematographer Siddharth Nuni recently criticised Animal for being “toxic and abusive”.
Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal has been making headlines for several reasons ever since its release. Even though the film is ruling the box office, it has also been accused of glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity by many. The latest on the list is Thalapathy68 cinematographer Siddharth Nuni.
As reported by Gulte, cinematographer Nuni recently took to his Instagram stories and criticised Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial for being “toxic and abusive”. He went on to call Animal a “Nazi glorifying” film and stated that it justifies “random alpha male theories.”
“I watched the film ‘Animal’ yesterday and honestly the film triggered me no end. The films Nazi glorifying (wearing the swastika on the chest), justifying toxic masculinity with random alpha male theories, the no hold barred violence with no rule of law, marital rape, abusive relationships where the woman is relegated to being a mute bystander while the husband behaves like a brute. And the last shot of the film where the character of Ranbir Kapoor signals to the audience to come and suck his p***s were beyond redemption and abusive to the audience’s minds,” Nuni wrote.
“The fact that this film has collected so much money reflects the social condition of the country we live in? And for an A-rated film, I have seen young children in the audience at a popular multiplex in Hyderabad. Where is the censorship and the responsibility to protect young minds?” the cinematographer added.
Earlier today, Sunny Deol also praised Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial, which also stars his brother Bobby Deol but admitted that he did not like “certain things” in it.
Released on December 1, Animal revolves around a man and his toxic relationship with his father. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film shows Vijay (played by Ranbir) as an anti-hero who would go to any lengths to protect his father (played by Anil Kapoor). However, despite his efforts, he struggles to get a seal of approval from his emotionally unavailable father. His unhealthy relationship with his father also impacts his bond with his wife, essayed by Rashmika Mandanna. The film has already crossed the Rs 500 crore mark at the Indian box office.
