Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham hosts contest for engineering students, developers to showcase their tech innovations


India made it to the list of top 50 most innovative countries for the first time in 2020 when ranked 48th among 131 countries in the Global Innovation Index (GII). Concerted efforts have been made by both the public and private sector to boost innovation in the country, including through various challenges, initiatives, awards, and hackathons.


One such initiative is
Engenius – 2022 Best Project Awards, which is a national level annual tech innovation project competition organized by the Directorate of Admissions & Academic Outreach of
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University.


Engenius offers a platform for talented engineering students and professionals in the engineering industry to showcase their innovative technical projects. The initiative is aimed at building an innovative research and development ecosystem and offering a platform for talented engineering students at UG and PG/PhD level as well as professionals working in the industry to highlight their innovative technical projects.

Registrations for the competition opened from May 2, 2022 onwards and will remain
open for applications until June 15, 2022.

The competition: How it works?

Participants will have to go through three rounds – preliminary round, qualifier round and grand finale round.

  1. Preliminary Round: This round will take place in the form of an online abstract submission. Participants – individuals or a team of maximum five members – can register for the competition and submit the project under any of the mentioned categories. The preliminary evaluation of the project will be based on the topic and its objective.
  2. Qualifier Round: The second-round will involve evaluation of the project based on relevance, innovation, fulfillment of objectives, development efficiency, effectiveness, impact, and society relatedness. The teams are expected to submit a project presentation video explaining the project in detail in this round.
  3. Grand Finale: The shortlisted teams will enter the third and final round which will be conducted as an on-ground activity and will take place at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University. The final evaluation of the innovative tech project will be based on this presentation as well as the discussion with experts from industry and academia, which will, in turn, be followed by a question and answer session.

Award categories & what winners get

There are over five award categories. They are: Best Innovation, Best Startup Project, Best Research Project, Best Project from Each State (Southern States), and Best Project in various fields of technology.

  • Win a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and attractive gadgets
  • Present their project at the Future Technology & Innovators Summit, which is scheduled for July 2022, along with opportunity to network and be an integral part of the tech ecosystem
  • Participate in a free two-days workshop opportunity
  • Qualify for scholarships for MTech admission at the University
  • Avail internship opportunities for top-performing teams

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has been ranked 41st in Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022, which measures contributions of universities to the sustainable development goals.

The competition will culminate with the Future Technology & Innovation Summit, through which Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham aims to make a larger impact on the society by bringing together leaders, regulators, and innovators from around the world to explore the latest breakthroughs in future technology.
