Filming for Palwankar Baloo biopic, starring Ajay Devgn, is expected to start by the end of 2023.
Actor Ajay Devgn is set to star in a film about India’s first Dalit cricketer, Palwankar Baloo, after his role in Maidaan. Film producer Priti Sinha announced this on X on May 29. Filming for the biopic is expected to start by the end of 2023. The movie is based on historian Ramchandra Guha’s book ‘A Corner Of A Foreign Field’. Palwankar Baloo, from the Dalit community, began as a groundsman in Pune and later played for the Hindu Gymkhana in 1896. Guha’s book explores the discrimination he faced in his career. Tigmanshu Dhulia will direct it.
Sharing on X, Priti Sinha wrote, “We, @ajaydevgn @dirtigmanshu @pritisinha333 are producing Baloo Palwankar’s story based on @Ram_Guha sir’s book ‘A Corner Of A Foreign Field’. We will bring the story of this great cricketer on film soon (sic).”
Ajay Devgn was recently in ‘Maidaan’, a biopic about legendary footballer Syed Abdul Rahim. He also appeared in the horror-thriller ‘Shaitaan’ with Jyotika and Madhavan. Next, he’ll star in Rohit Shetty’s ‘Singham Again’, alongside Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, and Kareena Kapoor. The movie is set to release on August 15, 2024. Ajay Devgn recently completed the shoot of Singham Again in Kashmir and it is now in news that he is in talks with Mission Mangal director Jagan Shakti for next.
The upcoming film will spotlight Baloo, a renowned athlete from the Dalit community. His career allegedly started as a groundsman at a cricket club in Pune. In 1896, he earned a spot to play for the Hindu Gymkhana, marking an inspiring trajectory.
