“Over the years, we have consistently invested in technology, people and processes to further our agenda of keeping our users safe and secure online and enable them to express themselves freely on our platform. We use a combination of artificial Intelligence, reports from our community and review by our teams to identify and review content against our policies,” a Meta spokesperson said.
“In accordance with the IT Rules, we’ve published our monthly compliance report for the period for 31 days- 1 January to 31 January. This report will contain details of the content that we have removed proactively using our automated tools and details of user complaints received and action taken,” the spokesperson added.
As per the report, between January 1-31, the company received 911 reports through the Indian grievance mechanism for Facebook, and it responded to 100% of these 911 reports. The maximum number of reports were under categories such as hacking of account and bullying or harassment.
For its photo and video sharing app Instagram, it received 1037 reports through the Indian grievance mechanism and it responded to 100% of the 1037 reports. The maximum number of reports were under categories such as fake profile pretending to be me and hacking of account.
The company took action on 1.4 million posts linked to adult nudity and sexual activity on Facebook, around 233,600 posts on bullying and harassment, and 137,300 posts on child endangerment, nudity and physical abuse on the platform.

On Instagram, it took action on 466,200 posts on adult nudity and sexual activity between January 1-31, 285,900 posts on bullying and harassment, and 41,100 posts on child endangerment-nudity and physical abuse.
