Abhijit Bose planning to ‘rejoin entrepreneurial world’ after he quits as WhatsApp India head

WhatsApp India head Abhijit Bose, who quit Meta on Tuesday after a four-year stint as the head of the messaging service in India, plans to “rejoin the entrepreneurial world” and will make an announcement soon, he wrote in a Linkedin post.

Bose, the cofounder of payments firm Ezetap, joined WhatsApp in 2018 and was the first person to be appointed as a country head for the messaging app. Meta (then Facebook) had hired Bose to expand WhatsApp’s reach in India and drive its payments business.

“It’s been four years since I joined as WhatsApp’s first country head in India, and I’m so proud of what we have built. I’m also really excited about my next gig. I believe that the next five years will be transformational for India – with many of our current pre-IPO companies very quickly becoming the global leaders in their respective sectors. After a small break, I plan to rejoin the entrepreneurial world; you’ll see announcements on that shortly!” Bose wrote.

He joined WhatsApp when the messaging app had released the WhatsApp Business app for small businesses owners and its API (Application Programming Interface) to serve larger businesses for customer engagement at scale.

“We brought power to NGOs and small businesses to increase their reach and impact in ways one could never have envisioned. The net result is that WhatsApp has now made a difference as a key ally to India’s social and economic goals,” Bose added in his post.
