Deven Bhojani’s Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai is one of the most loved television shows in the country. With two seasons, the show continues to be loved for its writing and the performance of its actors. In a recent interview, the show’s writer Aatish Kapadia recalled the casting process of the sitcom. He mentioned that the most difficult casting was of Rupali Ganguly as the actor was skeptical of playing the role of Monisha.
In a conversation with Times Now/Telly Talk, writer and director Aatish Kapadia revealed how he got the five main actors on board for Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai. He revealed that he wanted Satish Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah, Sumeet Raghavan, Rajesh Kumar, and Rupali Ganguly on the sitcom. He said, “Yeh jo paancho characters hai, unke liye maine, bahut clearly bol diya tha. Satish Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah, Sumit Raghavan, Rupali, Ganguly aur Rajesh Kumar, I clearly said I want all these.”
Talking about the casting, Kapadia mentioned how getting Ganguly on board was the most difficult as she didn’t think that she would be able to do justice to the role. Kapadia said, “Rupali khud dar rahi thi. Woh bol rahi thi ki main toh drama kar rahi hu, main toh, vamp kar rahi hoon, yeh kaise karungi? Humne kaha, haan haan, wo sab chhodna tu. (Rupali was scared. She told us she was working in drama and performing the role of a vamp in serials. She asked us how will she be able to pull this off. We told her you will have to leave that)”
He also mentioned how Kumar had to learn the South Bombay lingo as he hailed from Bihar. He said, “He had to work hard to get the drawl that South Bombay people speak. He used to visit those places and learn the accent. One day, he got it right and we told him, ‘You are Roshesh now.’”
Sarabhai vs Sarabhai completed 20 years recently. The team took to their social media to thank fans for the love that they continue to receive for the show to date.
