Aamir Khan opens up about his early insecurity regarding his height, sharing how he overcame fears of audience rejection and embraced his work.

Aamir Khan will next be seen in Sitare Zameen Par.

Aamir Khan, one of the most celebrated actors in Bollywood, recently opened up about the early struggles he faced as a newcomer in the industry, particularly his insecurity regarding his height. The actor, who stands at 5’5, confessed that he harbored an “inferiority complex” in his early days, fearing that his stature would hinder his acceptance by the audience.

In a candid conversation with Nana Patekar on Zee Music Company’s YouTube channel, Aamir shared, “Yes, I did. I used to feel that what if people don’t accept me because of my height. This was my fear. But later I realised that all of this does not matter at all. But at that time, some kind of insecurity creeps in.” Despite being shorter than most of the leading men in Bollywood, Aamir feared that he would be rejected by audiences due to his height.

Nana Patekar, known for his candid nature, comforted Aamir by saying, “Look at my face. With this face, I could work for 50 years.” Aamir then reflected on how his early insecurities were eventually replaced by a more profound understanding of what truly mattered in his career. He continued, “The things that stress us out in the beginning, we later realise that these things don’t matter at all. What is important is how honestly you are working and how your work can enchant people, and after that everything else is unimportant.”

This revelation echoes an earlier interview from 2012, during the promotions of Talaash, when Aamir admitted that he was once afraid of being called “tingu” (short). “Mere zehan mein tha, mujhe darr tha log bolenge bada tingu hai, so yeh darr tha par logon ko pasand aaya,” he said, recalling the insecurities that plagued him early in his career.

His next project, Sitaare Zameen Par, promises to showcase his continued evolution as a performer.
