The biggest inclusion could be a suite of ADAS features, a first for any Tata model.
Spy photos of a heavily camouflaged Tata Safari prototype have recently surfaced on the internet, suggesting there could be an update in the pipeline soon. While no significant cosmetic change could be seen in the camouflaged car’s outline, there could be major upgrades on the equipment front.
- Updated Safari could get ADAS tech, 360-degree camera
- Minor cosmetic tweaks visible on grille, bumper
- Likely to remain mechanically unchanged
2022 Tata Safari: what the new spy photos reveal
The only cosmetic update visible at the front end is a new grille – the tri-arrow design pattern has been swapped with new rectangular design elements with silver accents – which is very similar to what’s offered on the Harrier. At the rear, the silver bumper insert is now finished in black.
The bigger updates will likely be to the equipment list of the Safari. The Tata SUV has always been on the back foot when compared to rivals like the MG Hector Plus and the Hyundai Alcazar. However, with this update, the Safari is expected to receive a larger touchscreen infotainment system and 360-degree cameras. In fact, a test mule of the Harrier was recently spotted with wing mirror-mounted cameras, suggesting that it could be updated with 360-degree cameras.
The 2022 Tata Safari could also come with ADAS features such as blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, auto emergency braking and rear cross-traffic alert, which could make it the first model in the carmaker’s line-up to be offered with the tech.
2022 Tata Safari: no mechanical changes expected
The updated Safari is expected to remain mechanically unchanged, which means it will continue with the 170hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine, mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Safari and the Harrier are long due for a petrol engine option, although that is not likely to be a part of this update.
