Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh kicked off to a promising start at the box office. The period drama tells the story of Indian lawyer C Shankaran Nair, who fought for truth and justice after the horrific Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919. The incident claimed thousands of lives, including men, women and children. Behind the brutal killings was Brigadier General Reginald Dyer of the British Empire. In the film, the role of Dyer has been played by Simon Paisley Day.

Simon Paisley Day is a popular British actor. In his career spanning over three decades, the actor has been a part of theatre, radio plays, TV shows and movies. In the initial stage of his career, he featured in numerous plays which were adaptations of writers like Oscar Wilde, William Shakespeare, John Buchan and Bruce Norris. Simultaneously, he kept on taking roles for TV shows.
Simon’s first small screen role was in BBC’s Red Dwarf, followed by popular series Doctor Who, The Last Detective, The Musketeers and more. His breakthrough role came in Netflix’s The Crown and the Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer Sherlock. As for his big screen debut, it happened later with the film Churchill: The Hollywood Years in 2004. Throughout his career, he has also been a part of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Victoria & Abdul and Brexit: The Uncivil War.
Kesari: Chapter 2 marks Simon Paisley Day’s Bollywood debut. In the film, he takes on the role of one of the most hated generals from the British rule in India, General Reginald Dyer. FYI, Dyer ordered his policemen to open fire at a large crowd gathered at the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab. They were brutally killed for protesting against the Rowlatt Act during the annual Baisakhi fair in April 1919.
About Kesari Chapter 2
A historical courtroom drama directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari Chapter 2 is based on the book The Case That Shook The Empire. The film was released in theatres on April 18.
In the period drama, Akshay Kumar plays the role of C Sankaran Nair, who fought against the British Empire. Ananya Panday and R Madhavan join him to portray Dilreet Gill and Neville McKinley, respectively.
