As Pani, Joju George’s first film as a director released on OTT, let’s explore more about the Malayalam star and his journey.
Malayalam film Pani recently made its way to an OTT platform, following its theatrical release in October 2024. Since its release, the movie has been getting positive attention for its intriguing plot, which is also the directorial debut of Joju George. Before stepping into the director’s chair, Joju started his career in the entertainment industry as an assistant director and later appeared in supporting roles. His career took off after his debut in the 2003 film Pattallam, directed by Lal Jose, which earned him well deserved recognition. Now, as Pani became his first film as a director, let’s explore more about Joju George and his journey.
After making several cameo appearances, Joju rose to fame after he played the lead role in Pattalam. Later, he featured in several successful films like Vasthavam Trivandrum Lodge and Udaharanam Sujatha, which further established his presence in the industry. In 2015, Joju expanded his career by becoming a producer for Charlie, starring Dulquer Salmaan, as well as Joseph and Madhuram.
In Pani, Joju George not only makes his debut as a director but also plays the lead role, Giri. The film, now streaming on Sony LIV, explores the story of a couple leading a peaceful life in Thrissur, Kerala. The man works at a real estate firm, but their life turns upside down after two young men create conflicts with the family. This forces Giri to take control of the situation. The movie also features Sagar Surya, Junaiz V. P., Bobby Kurian, Abhinaya, Abhaya Hiranmayi, Seema, Chandini Sreedharan, Prashanth Alexander, Sujith Shankar and Rinosh George in key roles.
Pani is the first Malayalam movie to be released on Sony LIV, and it is available for streaming in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
As reported by Mint, during the press meet of the movie, Joju revealed, “I have taken a two year break in acting and have directed Pani. All the Artists and technicians have given great support for me in this film.”
Joju George tied the knot with Abba in 2008, and together they have three children: Sarah, Ian and Ivan.
