Recalling his experience of working with Lata Mangeshkar, the filmmaker added, “Unki awaaz mein Mata Saraswati baithi. I’ve been a fan of Lata Didi since before she performed for my film for the first time. I believe my first film was ‘Dhool Ka Phool’. She did not sing for me in my second film, ‘Dharamputra.’ That film sparked a lot of controversy. And I believe that if she had been there, the picture would not have gotten into such problems.”

“I told my son Adi (Aditya Chopra) that as long as I’m around, only Lata Didi would sing in my films. There was no room for another voice when Adi made ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’. And look at her eternal magical powers! She sang wonderfully for Kajol in Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye and Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jana Sanam!” he continued.
