West Bengal sees sudden spike in Covid cases


West Bengal witnessed a sudden increase in Covid cases with daily spike on Sunday touching 1822 and registering a daily 14.10 positivity rate. On Saturday, the state had registered 1499 cases with a daily positivity rate of 14.98 per cent.

According to the health bulletin, the total number of daily spikes touched 1822 on Sunday, which is a massive hike compared to 551 cases on June 27.

It is pertinent to mention that several doctors in government-run hospital Calcutta Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata tested positive for Covid. In Purulia, Medical Superintendent, many nursing staffers and doctors tested positive.

Meanwhile, India reported 16,103 new Covid cases in a span of 24 hours, which is a marginal decline from the previous day’s count of 17,092, according to the Union Health Ministry on Sunday.

The country reported 31 more Covid deaths, taking the nationwide toll to 5,25,199.

Meanwhile, the active caseload of the country has also risen to 1,11,711 cases, accounting for 0.26 per cent of the country’s total positive cases.

Meanwhile, India’s daily positivity rate has also marginally increased to 4.27 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate currently stands at 3.81 per cent.
