On the occasion of Russia’s Unity Day on Friday, the Russian president praised India’s potential. “India will achieve outstanding results in terms of its development – there are no doubts – and almost one-and-a-half billion people: now that’s potential,” he said.
“Let’s look at India: a talented, very driven people with such a drive for internal development. It (India) will certainly achieve outstanding results. India will achieve outstanding results in terms of its development. There are no doubts. And almost one-and-a-half billion people. Now that’s potential,” Putin said.
The Russian President spoke about colonialism in Africa, the potential of India and how Russia has a ‘unique civilisation and culture.’
Putin’s statement came ahead of Foreign Minister S Jaishankar’s two day trip to Moscow on November 7-8.
This is the second time in as many weeks that the Russian President has lauded India.
Last week Putin has heaped praises on PM Narendra Modi and described him as one of those who conducted an independent foreign policy and is a true patriot.
He said India and Russia have a special relationship which developed over decades and the two nations have no outstanding issues. Putin was then speaking at the 19th Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club in Moscow.
India has maintained neutrality on the Ukraine conflict and did not abide by the Western sanctions and is engaged in a robust trade of energy & other natural resources.
