Following its recent debut at the Auto Expo 2025, the upcoming Tata Sierra has been spied on test for the first time on our roads, almost immediately recognizable by its iconic silhouette. The Sierra was showcased in a near-production guise at the Auto Expo, and it is set to go on sale by the end of this year.

- Launch slated by end of 2025
Tata Sierra: what do the spy shots reveal?
The spied prototype is likely the ICE version of the Sierra as we can discern a central air intake in the lower bumper area – the Sierra EV has a completely sealed-off fascia. And while this prototype is heavily camouflaged, one can still make out the split headlamp setup at the front and a connected LED light bar at the rear. The prototype can also be seen riding on steel wheels, but the production-spec SUV is expected to come with 19-inch alloys on top trims.
As mentioned, the Sierra at the Auto Expo was already in near-production guise, so not much is going to change on the final version that makes it to showrooms. The signature curved-over rear-side windows, the high set bonnet and squared-out wheel arch cladding – design elements harking back to the original Sierra – can all be expected on the final production version of the SUV.
Sierra interior yet to be seenÂ
Unfortunately, we didn’t get a glimpse of the Sierra interior, but the model showcased at the Auto Expo featured a floating triple screen setup and a four-spoke steering wheel. The production version will also likely use some interior elements from Tata’s existing crop of SUVs for cost benefits.
Tata Sierra engine optionsÂ
Expected to come with 1.5 petrol and 2.0 diesel enginesÂ
Tata hasn’t yet divulged specific powertrain details of the combustion-powered Sierra, but it is expected to be offered with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine option – making 170hp and 280Nm – and a 2.0-litre diesel engine option. The latter is the same unit that does duty on the Harrier and Safari, but it remains to be seen if it’s offered in the same 170hp, 350Nm state of tune.
Tata Sierra launch details and rivalsÂ
The Sierra ICE is expected to launch in close succession to the Sierra EV by late 2025, and it will be a direct rival to the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Grand Vitara. The Tata Sierra is expected to be around 4.3 meters long, meaning it will slot in below the Harrier, but official figures are yet to be revealed. Â
