We test higher-spec Tata Curvv EV, which comes with a 55kWh battery and a claimed range of 502km.
The Curvv EV, Tata Motors’ flagship electric car, stands out due to its coupe-esque styling. It is priced between Rs 17.49 lakh and Rs 21.99 lakh and comes with two battery options – 45kWh and 55kWh. In our preliminary highway range test, the 55kWh delivered an efficiency of 6.54km/kWh, which translates to 359km on a single charge. Now, we put it through our real-world test to find out its actual range.

Tata Curvv EV’s real world range and charging times
Powering the higher-spec Tata Curvv EV is a 167hp, 215Nm motor mounted on the front axle. The claimed MIDC range with its 55kWh Lithium Ferrous Phosphate (LFP) battery pack is 502km. However, Tata Motors claims a real-world range of 400-425km under the C75 cycle.
For our real-world range test, we kept the Curvv EV in the ‘Eco’ mode throughout, which restricts the torque to 70 percent of total output and caps the max speed at 120kph. The regenerative braking was set at Level 2 (medium) for the city and Level 1 (low) for the highway.
In our tests, the Curvv EV returned an efficiency of 6.52km/kWh on the highway and 6.75km/kWh in the city, resulting in a combined efficiency of 6.64km/kWh. This extrapolates to a real-world range of 365km.
Tata Motors claims that using a 70kW DC charger, the Curvv EV’s 55kWh battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 40 minutes. On a 60kW DC charger, it charged from 42 to 80 percent in 20 minutes and took 35 minutes to go from 80 to 100 percent. When using an 11kWh AC charger, it took 190 minutes (3 hours and 10 minutes) to recharge the battery from 66 to 100 percent.
Autocar India’s range testing
Before our real-world range test, the battery of our test car is fully charged, and we maintain tyre pressures as recommended by the manufacturer. The car is driven in a fixed loop in the city and highway, and we maintain certain average speeds. In the end, we calculate the range based on the percentage of charge consumed. Throughout our test, the climate control is set at 22 degrees Celsius, the fan speed is set to auto, and other electricals, such as the audio system, lights and ventilated front seats (if equipped), are used when required, just like how a regular user would. We take pride in our testing data, which isn’t just consistent but also gives users an accurate indication of what they can expect in the real world.
