It seems like Sony PlayStation might have a new model of the PS5 for fans to snag next year.
According to a report from Insider Gaming, the Japanese console manufacturer is currently developing a new chassis model for the PS5, which will debut next year.
Ever since the PlayStation 5 released in late 2020, Sony has pushed multiple chassis reworks for the console with Chassis A, B, and C being part of the current console’s lineup.
The new D chassis will reportedly feature all the same hardware as the current PS5s. However, it will arrive with a new feature in a detachable disc drive. Furthermore, it’s been stated that this drive will connect to the console using a USB-C port connection, which will be present on the back.
The new D chassis PS5 will be sold on its own for the most part. However, the detachable disc drive will also be available to purchase with the console in a bundle. Since the console will also be sold separately, the same option will also be available for the disc drive.
The report suggests that the disc drive won’t ruin the console’s aesthetics. Along with that, users can rest assure about an entirely new design for the PS5, as the D chassis model will look the same as its predecessors.
With the new chassis rework, players can also expect to see a model that will weigh much less, as suggested in the report.
It will be interesting to see what Sony has been cooking with the new PS5, and fans can’t wait to see what the console manufacturers will have in store when it arrives on its rumored release month of September 2023.
