Jack Black is a keeper. The actor recently fulfilled his sweet promise to Tanner Smith from Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum and the moment has captured attention online. Tanner, who is a huge fan of Kung Fu Panda, was left stunned when the 55-year-old star appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to surprise him in person.
Black, who voiced Po in the popular animated film, had earlier sent Tanner a video message where he encouraged him to “keep up the great work” and promised they would meet “someday soon.” And that day finally came on the show’s April 3 episode.
Before the big moment, Clarkson told Tanner that Black had sent another video message. In it, Black said, “What’s up, Tanner? Jack Black here! I still cannot wait to meet you in person, but I’m on the road with A Minecraft Movie. But luckily, I have insane ninja kung fu powers, which means I can come through these doors and I’m gonna see you right now when I come through these doors!”
Right after that, Black walked through the studio doors and headed straight to Tanner. The 25-year-old Netflix star stood up in excitement and gave him a big hug.
“Jack, I’m so glad I finally get to meet you! Jack, I’m your biggest fan ’cause you’re a great actor and a great singer,” Tanner said. He also told Black he was “handsome” and “strong” as they sat together on the couch.
“I do work out a little bit. We should do some weightlifting together. You can teach me some tips,” Black replied with a grin.
Tanner matched his energy and playfully responded, “Guess what, I’m going to get your phone number and then we can work out together,” before the two shared a high-five.
Black also praised Tanner’s work on Love on the Spectrum. For those not familiar, Love on the Spectrum is a Netflix series that follows people on the autism spectrum as they navigate love and relationships.
“I love you on the show and I can’t wait for the next season, and I’m so happy for you, having all of this success and time in your life. And to meet you in person is amazing for me too!” Black told Tanner.
Tanner ended the emotional moment by turning to Clarkson and saying, “Ms. Kelly, thank you so much. This is the best day of my life.”
Talking about A Minecraft Movie is a fantasy adventure comedy directed by Jared Hess. The film is inspired by the 2011 video game Minecraft by Mojang Studios. Alongside Black, it features Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers and Sebastian Hansen.
