Netflix’s Korean reality dating show Single’s Inferno concluded on February 11, bringing an end to another season filled with drama and romance. As the contestants made their final choices, the show ended with four couples leaving the island happily. However, one couple left the audience divided as they thought that the female contestant deserved better. We are talking about Bae Ji Yeon and Kim Tae Hwan.
Throughout the 4th season, viewers were highly interested in Ji Yeon’s storyline, but they were left shocked when she ultimately chose Tae Hwan as her partner. Many on the internet believed that she deserved someone better than Tae Hwan, as he had been seen as a “self-centred” person. While he had consistently shown interest in Ji Yeon, he did not give her the attention she deserved.
Moreover, Ji Yeon herself explained that when it came to the two of them, she was unsure of certain things, expressing her lingering doubts. However, she ultimately chose him over anyone else because he had always been devoted to her. Furthermore, when the couple was walking out, Tae Hwan mentioned that Ji Yeon’s face showed different emotions. This led her to ask, “Did I look like I was thinking, ‘I’ll choose you out of pity.’” Tae Hwan responded to her query, saying that it felt like she did not want to leave him on the island.
When the final episodes aired on Netflix, online users took to social media to express their disappointment in Ji Yeon’s decision. Some on the internet also joked that the contestant did not want to leave the island alone, so she chose Tae Hwan.
On a Reddit post titled “Jiyeon’s choice… WHY,” one user commented, “I think saying no would have been uncomfortable for her lol, she doesn’t seem like the type of person to have rejected at the end after basically being together the entire season, whether that was for better or worse.”
Another added, “Feel sad for her, imagine the yucks she felt, but she looks too nice to really hurt him.”
Someone else wrote, “Yeah I figured. He was literally such a wrong choice in every way, from the way he asked her no questions to the whole marriage thing.”
“I think they’re required to choose somebody. But considering how Jiyeon didn’t really connect much with the other guys other than Tehwan, she really had no other choice and just chose him. Though I’m 100% sure those hands unlinked the moment they were off cam,” read another comment.
