Shahid Kapoor is happily married to Mira Rajput and often speaks highly of her in interviews. Before his marriage, he was in a long-term relationship with Kareena Kapoor which ended in a public breakup. After Kareena, the actor was rumoured to be dating several actresses but he never confirmed those relationships. Now, in a recent chat with Raj Shamani, Shahid Kapoor opened up about his heartbreaks and what they taught him.
Shahid Kapoor said, “Sometimes you love someone so much that when they reject you, you chase them to a degree that you start losing your dignity. You sacrifice your dignity and you don’t even realise that you have lost your self-respect in the process, and that realisation happens much later and you think, ‘What was I doing?’”
Shahid added, “You decide who you want to become, and if it hasn’t helped you decide who you want to become, then you have wasted the opportunity, or you have not gotten anything good out of it.” The actor mentioned that his heartbreaks have taught him what qualities he wants in a partner.
He mentioned, “Because falling in love with someone is different but you need to understand if they are bringing the best or worst out of you because eventually, you have to live with yourself.” He added, “What I have learnt from love is that one should not be needy of something from the other person. That’s a very selfish reason to want to find love. ‘I am needy, I need to be comforted, I need to be made to feel like I am so important, I can’t see beyond this person’, all of this is selfish. We all want that love and attention but eventually, you should be able to give in a relationship. You should be able to be the giver.”
Shahid Kapoor married Mira Rajput in 2015. Their families arranged the marriage. While Shahid liked Mira from their first meeting, it took Mira about six months to agree to the marriage. Despite their 13-year age difference, the couple has built a beautiful life together. Shahid and Mira welcomed their first child, Misha, in 2016, and their son, Zain, followed in 2018.
On the professional front, Shahid Kapoor plays a cop in his upcoming film ‘Deva’. It also stars Pooja Hegde, Pavail Gulati, Pravessh Rana, and Kubbra Sait. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Umesh KR Bansal, Deva is slated to hit theatres on January 31, 2025, promising an action-packed cinematic experience.
