Security breach at Mamata Banerjee’s residence, trespasser being interrogated

A security breach was reported at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence at Kalighat in South Kolkata as a trespasser allegedly sneaked into her residential area last night and was found hiding inside the residential complex for the whole night.

Nabbed by the security personnel on Sunday morning, the trespasser was handed over to local Kalighat Police Station. He is being interrogated by Kalighat Police.

Security has been enhanced in and around the Chief Minister’s residence and a probe has been ordered, police sources said.

The police are interrogating the person to probe his intention behind trespassing into the Chief minister’s residence and how he could enter that high-security zone climbing up the walls. Facing interrogation, the person reportedly confessed that he climbed up the boundary walls and entered the Chief Minister’s residence at around 1 a.m. and was hiding there for the whole night.

Questions have been raised about the security breach and how the intruder could climb up the walls without security personnel on duty noticing him, and enter the chief minister’s residence, in this high security zone even avoiding the CCTV cameras installed there.

It is learnt that all security personnel in charge of the security arrangements at the chief minister’s residence will be questioned and the negligence part will also be probed.
