High in Saturated Fats

Abundant in saturated fats, coconut oil contains approximately 82 per cent saturated fatty acids, known for raising LDL, or “bad” cholesterol, potentially contributing to heart issues. Despite the belief that coconut oil aids in weight loss, it is calorie-dense, packing around 120 calories and 14 grams of fat in just one tablespoon. While considered a healthy choice, excessive consumption may contribute to weight gain without sufficient physical activity or a balanced diet. It’s crucial to be mindful of portion sizes and overall calorie intake when incorporating coconut oil into your diet.

No Essential Nutrients

Certainly, coconut oil provides certain health benefits, yet it lacks essential nutrients crucial for overall well-being. Specifically, coconut oil lacks vitamins, minerals and fibre. In contrast, oils like olive oil and avocado oil are nutrient-dense, containing vitamins E and K, antioxidants and other beneficial compounds, contributing to their overall health benefits.

Coconut oil commonly undergoes extensive processing, notably with refined, bleached, deodorised (RBD) varieties. This processing, involving solvents and high heating, diminishes the health benefits of coconut oil. RBD coconut oil may lead to an elevation in cholesterol levels, highlighting potential drawbacks associated with its processing methods.

No Scientific Evidence

While coconut oil is often touted for numerous health benefits, there is limited scientific evidence supporting these claims.
