Pooja Bhatt was one of the most popular leading actresses in the 1990s. Recipient of two National Film Awards, the diva has proved her acting mettle by working in a number of hit movies. The actress made her debut in father Mahesh Bhatt’s 1989 television film Daddy. However, her breakthrough came with the romantic comedy Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin in 1991. Sadak (1991)
The romantic thriller features Sanjay Dutt as a young man who falls in love with Pooja Bhatt’s character, a sex worker. The film explores the themes of love, survival, and redemption amidst the dark underbelly of prostitution.
Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991)
Starring Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt, the film follows the story of a young girl who runs away from home to be with her boyfriend. On her way, she meets Raghu, who agrees to escort her to her destination, but the duo fall in love during the journey. It is a remake of the 1934 Hollywood classic, It Happened One Night.
Junoon (1992)
The fantasy horror, directed by Mahesh Bhatt, narrates the story of a man who transforms into a tiger due to a curse. The plot follows his deadly obsession and the attempts to break the curse.
Border (1997)
The ensemble war drama is based on the true events of the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. Pooja Bhatt played Akshaye Khanna’s fiancée in the film. Amongst the heavyweights like Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty and Jackie Shroff, the actress impressed fans with her heartfelt portrayal of Kamla Sodhi.
Zakhm (1998)
Another Mahesh Bhatt directorial, Zakhm starred Ajay Devgn and Pooja Bhatt in lead roles. The actress played Ajay’s mother in the film, who dies during the 1992-93 Mumbai riots.
