PDP, Congress slam Govt on 3rd anniversary of dilution of Article 370

On the third anniversary of the dilution of Article 370 on Friday, normalcy prevailed in most parts of the Valley except a few areas where a complete shutdown was observed.

Political parties, including the People’s Democratic Party and Congress, held protest demonstrations at their respective headquarters in Srinagar lashing out at the Centre for its ‘anti-people’ policies across the country, especially in J&K.

Businesses in most parts of the Valley were functional and public transport although thin remained available throughout the day. The police and paramilitary forces remained deployed in most parts of Srinagar and senior officials were seen touring the city throughout the day.

Some of the shopkeepers in Lal Chowk complained that they were directed to keep their shops open on this day. “Normalcy is a mirage here. We live in perpetual uncertainty and fear,” said a shopkeeper on condition of anonymity.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said BJP will finish off the Constitution and the foundations of secularism on which the country stands. “They’ll make this a religious country. They will change the Tiranga, which you are hoisting proudly, and bring in a saffron flag,” said Mufti during a protest.
