Veteran actress Padmini Kolhapure is set to make her television comeback after nearly 12 years. She will be seen playing the role of Rajmata in the upcoming historical drama Chakravarti Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan. Her last major appearance on TV was in Ekk Nayi Pehchaan.
While the actress is surely excited for her next venture, she recently shared that one of her biggest regrets is never getting the chance to work with Amitabh Bachchan.
“One thing is for sure — I really missed out on working with Amitji. It was probably one of my biggest regrets, as I have worked with everyone else, and he is the only actor I haven’t worked with,” she said in an interview with The Times of India.
Padmini was reportedly part of the original cast of Silsila (1981), which featured Amitabh and Parveen Babi. She was later replaced by Smita Patil, and the role eventually went to Jaya Bachchan.
The actress, who has appeared in only a handful of films over the last two decades, was last seen in Panipat (2019). She shared that she chose to be part of the film because she admired director Ashutosh Gowariker’s work and was drawn to the scale of the project.
She also recalled enjoying her time on the sets of Phata Poster Nikhla Hero (2013). She mentioned that she took up that film for its emotional story and her respect for Rajkumar Santoshi as a director.
Speaking about her current role, Padmini said she’s enjoying playing Rajmata. “The last historical character I played was in Panipat, which I enjoyed. When you wear the costumes, your demeanour changes automatically, right down to the walk,” she added.
In an earlier conversation with IANS, Padmini also spoke about how meaningful this return to television was for her. She said that her TV journey began with Sony Entertainment Television, and coming back to the same channel after all these years felt both special and fulfilling.
“Stepping into the world of Chakravarti Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan is incredibly special for me, not just because of the powerful role I’m playing, but also because it marks my return to television after almost 11 years. My journey on television began with Sony Entertainment Television, and now, after all these years, I’m returning to the same channel with a role that is both challenging and fulfilling,” she had said.
Chakravarti Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan is historical drama based on the legendary king. The show will focus on his evolution from an innocent prince to a respected warrior king. Apart from Padmini, the show will also feature Anuja Sathe, Ronit Roy and Rumi Khan.
