MG ZS HEV, MG 7 Trophy, IM 5 and IM 6 showcased at Auto Expo 2025 -DellyRanks

JSW MG Motor India has one of the most sprawling pavilions at the Auto Expo 2025, and it has created quite a buzz with the Cybertster electric sportscar, the M9 MPV and the Majestor SUV, which will go on sale in India soon. Besides these, MG has showcased quite a few models from its global portfolio at the event. These include the premium IM 5 sedan and IM 6 SUV, the new MG 7 Trophy and the ZS PHEV. Let’s take a closer look at each.

IM 5 and 6

IM, which stands for ‘Intelligent Mobility’, was founded as an EV-only brand in 2020 by MG’s parent, SAIC Motor, along with e-commerce giant Alibaba and R&D specialists Zhangjiang Hi-Tech. MG has displayed two models from the IM brand: the IM 5 sedan and the IM 6 SUV. Save for their body style, both look very similar with a common design philosophy; they have clean and swoopy surfaces, flared fenders, L-shaped LED headlamps and a full-width tail-lamp setup at the rear.

What’s unique about the IM 5 and 6 is that they use a solid-state battery, which significantly improves charging times and reduces leakage risks as compared to a lithium-ion battery. Both models showcased at the expo have four-wheel steering and a 100kWh battery, claimed to return over 600km of range. Power and torque outputs are rated at 778hp and 802Nm, respectively.

Inside, the IM 5 and 6 have a 26.3-inch panoramic screen setup, an additional vertical 10.5-inch screen and even a yoke-like steering wheel. Ultra-long-range LiDAR, NVIDIA Orin X chip and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip are standard.

MG 7 Trophy

The MG 7 Trophy is a fastback sports sedan based on the regular MG 7 sedan available in some markets overseas. It has a low-slung fastback silhouette, with muscular rear shoulders and sharp character lines flowing down its body.

Under the hood, the Trophy variant features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 261hp and 405Nm of torque and is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. It is also luxuriously equipped with a twin-screen infotainment and digital instrument cluster setup. The interior also exudes a sporty feel with a dark colour scheme and sports seats.

MG ZS HEV and HS PHEV

MG has also displayed the ZS HEV SUV, which is essentially a facelift of the MG Astor it sells abroad. Although MG has not shared any plans regarding the Astor getting a hybrid powertrain, the design seen on the ZS could make it to the Astor with a mid-life facelift.

The ZS HEV SUV has a revamped fascia with a much larger grille, sleeker headlamps and a new signature for the LED daytime running lights. It also sports much more pronounced air intakes at the bumper’s edges and tweaked tail-lamps.

Inside, there’s a larger touchscreen, a revised centre console, a new steering wheel and an updated instrument cluster. The real highlight, however, is the 102hp 1.5-litre petrol engine, which, coupled with an electric motor, makes 196hp and 465 Nm.

The automaker has also displayed the HS PHEV, which is slightly larger than the ZS but has a very similar design. The HS’ highlight is its 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain, which produces 299hp and 350Nm of torque. It even returns an electric-only range of over 100km from its 24.7kWh battery.
