Veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar passed away on Friday at the age of 87. Manoj Kumar contributed greatly to Indian cinema, and as Bollywood mourns the loss of the legend, Akshay Kumar has penned a heartfelt tribute for the late veteran.
Akshay Kumar took to X and wrote, “I grew up learning from him that there’s no emotion like love and pride for our country. And if we actors won’t take the lead in showing this emotion, who will? Such a fine person, and one of the biggest assets of our fraternity. RIP Manoj Sir. Om Shanti 🙏”

Akshay Kumar has always been an ardent Manoj Kumar fan. Years ago, in an interview with Subhash K Jha, Manoj Kumar said, “He (Akshay Kumar) has great respect for me. In his film with Katrina Kaif, Namaste London, he said, ‘If you want to know what India is all about, take a look at a DVD of Purab Aur Pachchim, and you’ll know. In fact, Purab Aur Pachchim is the mother of many subsequent films.”
Veteran Indian actor and film director Manoj Kumar has passed away. News agency ANI reported the death of Kumar on Friday morning and revealed that the actor breathed his last at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. More details about his death are awaited.
Manoj Kumar’s son, Kunal Goswami, also confirmed the news of the actor’s death and revealed that the final rites will take place tomorrow. “He has had health-related issues for a long time. It’s the grace of god that he bid adieu to this world peacefully. His cremation will take place tomorrow,” he said.
Manoj Kumar was known for acting in and directing films with patriotic themes. Some of his popular works include “Shaheed” (1965), “Upkar” (1967), “Purab Aur Paschim” (1970), and “Roti Kapda Aur Makaan” (1974). Because of his association with such movies, the actor was also widely called “Bharat Kumar”.
