Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole said: “MVA leaders will meet tomorrow (Monday) and will have a meeting to discuss the upcoming local body polls and discuss where the parties could have an alliance. It is important that we (all the three parties) remain together and fight the elections together to save Maharashtra.”
Patole’s claim is a major shift from his earlier stand that the Congress would like to go alone for the local body polls.
“You can’t take on BJP if the opposition parties are not united. It would benefit BJP if even one of the parties decides to fight the elections on their own. Hence, we have decided to stick together,” said a Congress leader.
Incidentally, a significant section of the Congress is wary of having an alliance with the Shiv Sena as they believe that it could give the latter legitimacy among its core voters who could eventually shift towards the Sena.
