Amid the controversy surrounding the movie L2: Empuraan, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) has come out in support of Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Recently, the film body issued a statement and condemned the personal attacks on the actors. It mentioned that while criticism is welcomed, threats and personal attacks are not.
“We welcome criticism of the film’s form and content without any compromises. Only through constructive criticism can an art form truly evolve. However, we firmly believe that criticism should not descend into personal attacks, threats, or branding, regardless of political or religious affiliations,” a part of FEFKA’s statement read.
“We stand in solidarity with all the film professionals who worked on Empuraan,” it added. The post concluded with a quote from Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea, which read, “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”
Empuraan is being criticised by a section of people for allegedly portraying right-wing politics as “villainous.” Due to the ongoing controversy, it was recently reported that the makers of Empuraan have decided to make 17 cuts to the film. Besides this, some dialogues from the film will also be muted. The name of the Villan, Baba Bajrangi, will also be changed.
Recently, Mohanlal also reacted to the controversy and expressed “regret”. He also assured that the contentious portions from the film would be removed.
Starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead, L2: Empuraan is a political action thriller film. Helmed by Prithviraj himself, it is the sequel to the 2019 hit Malayalam film Lucifer. Jointly produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Gokulam Gopalan under the banners of Aashirvad Cinemas Pvt Ltd and Sree Gokulam Movies, the film features an ensemble cast including Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh and Suraj Venjaramoodu in significant roles.
