Lionsgate and 87Eleven Entertainment, the makers of John Wick, are planning an English remake of the Indian action thriller Kill. Directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat and produced by Karan Johar, the original Hindi film releases in India on July 5. Kill, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival, follows Indian Army commando Amrit (Lakshya) as he fights to save his love, Tulika (Tanya Maniktala), on a New Delhi-bound train.

Kill premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness section and later appeared at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film tells the gripping story of Indian Army commando Amrit (Lakshya) who races against time and armed adversaries on a New Delhi-bound train to rescue his beloved Tulika (Tanya Maniktala). According to Deadline, Chad Stahelski, Jason Spitz, and Alex Young of 87Eleven Entertainment will lead the remake, attracted by the original film’s intense action sequences and compelling narrative.

“Nikhil delivers relentless action sequences that need to be seen by as wide an audience as possible. It’s exciting to be developing an English-language version – we have big shoes to fill,” Stahelski said.

The producers are excited about working together, noting the film’s success at international festivals and the excitement for its release in India. “When we made Kill with Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, we envisioned a story that would resonate globally. Seeing the enthusiasm from North American audiences during festival screenings was a testament to the film’s universal themes and thrilling action. Partnering with 87Eleven Entertainment and Lionsgate to produce an English remake is a significant milestone for Indian cinema,” a joint statement from the producers read, as quoted by Deadline.

Meanwhile, gave the film 4 stars. The review read, “A week after an innovative take on mythology was delivered in the form of Kalki 2898 AD, director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat delivers a refreshing take on Indian action films with Kill. If you love hardcore action films, Kill is a treat to watch. The film is not for the weak-hearted and is bound to leave you sick in the tummy if you can’t handle too much gore. Watch the film for it.”
