Jasleen Royal faced massive backlash on social media after her opening act during Coldplay’s concert in Mumbai, this January. While the singer did not initially react to the criticism over her performance, she has now shared a mini documentary titled ‘Dare To Dream’ on her YouTube channel which showed behind-the-scenes moments from her opening acts during Coldplay’s concert. She was seen going through the nasty comments and trolling for her opening act during the band’s Mumbai concert, and was visibly affected by the harsh criticism. She appeared morose, and teared up as she spoke about the pressure she felt, and how the criticism took an emotional toll on her.
The video shows a glimpse of her opening performance during Day 1 of Coldplay’s Mumbai concert, post which she shared several screenshots of netizens slamming her performance. The BTS video shows Jasleen looking visibly upset ahead of her performance on Day 2, at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai. One of her team members told her that it will be fine today. She said, “Yaar, kal nahi hua tha. Kal problem kya hua tha? In-ears phat kyu rahe the mere? (It wasn’t fine yesterday. What was the problem yesterday? Why were my in-ears bursting?)”. Another team member told her, “That creative part I will leave to you. Technical part, we are sorry.”
She was then seen talking about the pressure she felt. “After a certain point, I can feel it like it’s time to go home. There’s a lot of pressure. I’ll die. I swear I’ll die,” she said. She teared up after that, deeply affected by the trolling.
“I am still processing. It was a lot to process.” In another emotional moment, she was seen hugging her parents. Her team then cheered for her, after which she went on to perform during Day 2. She was also seen addressing the crowd, and telling them, “I have been nervous, it has been overwhelming. But thank you for keeping your faith in me. It means a lot.”
In another segment of the video, she said, “I am nervous. I don’t want people to think that she didn’t deserve to be here. Or ‘Why is she here? We just want Coldplay. We don’t like her music.’ I am a self-taught musician. So, I know I am not perfect. I keep learning every day. I try to better myself every day. But I try to put up a great show that people have a great experience. I’m just trying to put out my best effort that they also feel that was a good opening act we selected from India. And that’s all the pressure I’m taking. Nothing much.”
Vishal Dadlani, Antara Mitra, Sona Mohapatra were among those who criticized Jasleen’s performance during Coldplay’s concert.
