New Hyundai Verna: ADAS and safety features

ADAS, arguably, has been one of the biggest talking points of the new Verna. Hyundai has now revealed that the Verna will come equipped with front and rear radars, sensors and a front camera to allow for Level 2 ADAS functionality, meaning it will not only detect obstacles, but also initiate corrective actions and warnings. Hyundai claims that the system will work in all climatic conditions.

The ADAS suite will include features such as forward collision warning, blind spot collision warning, blind spot collision-avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, driver attention warning, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane following assist, leading vehicle departure alert, rear cross traffic collision-avoidance assist.

However, do note that ADAS features on the Verna is not a novelty in the segment anymore as Honda already offers it with higher-spec variants of the City.

Apart from ADAS, other safety features on the Verna include ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, ESC, hill-start assist, electronic parking brake and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

New Hyundai Verna: dimensions

The new Hyundai Verna will measure 4,535mm in length, 1,765mm in width and 1,475mm in height, making it longer and wider than the outgoing model, although its height remains the same. It will also have a 528-litre boot, which is 50 litres more than its predecessor.

New Hyundai Verna: powertrains

Hyundai will offer two 1.5-litre petrol engines with the new Verna – a 115hp naturally aspirated unit and a 160hp turbocharged unit. The former will be available with the lower variants, while the latter will be reserved for higher variants. While both engines will be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, the NA unit will get a CVT and the turbo-petrol will get a DCT as an option.

New Hyundai Verna: variants and rivals

The next-gen Verna will be offered in four trims – EX, S, SX and SX (O). Expect it to be priced roughly Rs 60,000-1 lakh more than the current model, depending on the variant. Once launched, it will rival the facelifted Honda CityVolkswagen VirtusSkoda Slavia and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
