Honda Cars India has announced the appointment of Takashi Nakajima as its new president and CEO, effective April 1, 2025. Nakajima will succeed Takuya Tsumura, who is returning to Honda’s head office in Japan after completing his three-year tenure in India.

Nakajima brings over 30 years of experience with the parent company, Honda Motor Co, having held various leadership positions across international markets, including Japan, China, Spain and the Czech Republic. He has been serving as the president of Honda Motor Russia since 2021.

During the outgoing president and CEO Tsumura’s leadership, Honda Cars India introduced the country’s first mainstream hybrid model, the City e:HEV, the Elevate SUV and the third-gen Amaze. He also laid the groundwork for future launches, including Honda’s first EV, codenamed ACE, for the Indian market.
The Japanese brand also expanded its export business during his tenure and began shipping the made-in-India Elevate to Japan. Under Tsumura’s leadership, Honda’s revenues rose 16 percent year on year to a six-year high of Rs 16,461 crore, with profit before tax rising 25 percent to Rs 1,029 crore. Total sales volumes grew 8.8 percent to a five-year high of 1,24,244 units, while export volumes surged 65.4 percent to 37,660 units.
In India, Honda currently retails the Amaze compact sedan, City midsize sedan and Elevate midsize SUV. During the April-January period of this financial year, the Japanese automaker sold 53,081 units, which gave it a market share of 1.5 percent; it exported 50,866 units.
