This year, at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, various Indian films have marked their spots with their unique storytelling and excellent cinematic approach. Founded in 1946, the Cannes Film Festival is considered one of the major European film festivals. Known for its star-studded red carpet and excellent set of jury members, the festival showcases and celebrates the cinematographic art in all of its aspects while encouraging emerging filmmakers and fostering a collaborative spirit among countries around the world.

Although Indian cinema has been leaving its mark on the global stage for a long time, only three Indian technicians have ever been awarded at the prestigious film festival. V. Shantaram
At the 5th Cannes Film Festival, V. Shantaram was awarded the Vulcan Award—Technical Grand Prize for direction. In the same year, his film Amar Bhoopali also competed at the festival. The well-known director, producer, and screenwriter is famous for his work in films like Duniya Naa Mane and Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje, among other works. Although Shantaram started his career as an actor, later he took the spot behind the camera for almost seven decades.
Modhura Palit
Modhura Palit is a famous cinematographer whose works can be seen in various Bengali movies, including Bahadur—The Brave, Kishmish, Amar Colony, Naxalbari, Kacher Manush, Aator and Kothamrito, among other films. In 2019. She was honored with the prestigious Pierre Angenieux Excellens-Promising Cinematography award at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival and became the first Indian to receive the prestigious award.
Santosh Sivan
Famous for his work in the Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam film industries, Santosh Sivan received the Pierre Angenieux Tribute in Cinematography at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Sivan has been working as a cinematographer in the film industry for decades and is popular for his works in the various films, including Barsaat, Roja, Dil Se, Ashoka, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and others.
