Some films entertain, some inspire, and some unexpectedly bring back memories we’d rather forget. Erica Fernandes recently opened up about how watching Do Patti, starring Shaheer Sheikh, brought back painful memories of her past. The actress, known for her roles in Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi and Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2, revealed that the film made her revisit a dark chapter in her life—one involving an abusive relationship.
In a conversation with Shardul Pandit on his podcast, Erica revealed how the baggage, trauma, trust issues, and heartbreak shaped the person she is today. She recalled, “I have gone through a very violent relationship. It was physically abusive as well. It reached a stage where there was physical abuse. But I didn’t want to bring it out at that time. When you’re an actor, everything becomes news. If you go to the police, it’ll be all over the media, leading to a media trial. If you don’t reveal the name, people start linking it to someone. Plus, I wasn’t sure what the outcome would be if I went to the police. I don’t trust the judicial system that much.”
She also confessed that she was hesitant to speak up, fearing people would dismiss it as a mere ‘publicity stunt.’
When asked about how she managed to cope, the actor shared that she handled it on her own, only opening up to a few close friends. She admitted that the experience “left a scar” and revealed that watching films portraying physical abuse often brings back painful memories. Erica added, “When I watched Shaheer’s Do Patti, it took me back to those days, and I was like, s**t.”
Erica made it clear that she isn’t sharing her story for attention. She explained that it took her years to find the courage to speak about it publicly. She also encouraged others facing similar situations to speak up and give themselves the time and space to heal.
Erica and Shaheer Sheikh previously worked together in the hit television show Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi.
