Elderly woman dies in Delhi road rage incident triggered by water splashing dispute

A 76-year-old woman lost her life in west Delhi. The elderly woman, Satwanti Devi, was trying to defuse a heated dispute stemming from a road incident when she was pushed to the ground and subsequently fell unconscious. She later succumbed to her injuries while in the hospital.

The incident occurred in Mundka on a Saturday night, when a 32-year-old man named Prince Gehlawat, driving a Creta on a waterlogged road, inadvertently splashed water over other cars. Gehlawat, in an attempt to resolve the situation, had apologized to the occupants of a WagonR, but tensions escalated when a Maruti Fronx blocked his way. The occupants of the Maruti became aggressive, angered by their car being splashed with muddy water.

According to the police, the dispute intensified as both parties called upon their family and friends for support. Gehlawat contacted his family and domestic help, while the suspects summoned their friends to the scene.

Tragically, Satwanti Devi, Gehlawat’s grandmother, was present at the scene with other family members. She attempted to calm the situation, but one of the men, later identified as Sunny, forcefully pushed her to the ground, causing her to lose consciousness. She was immediately taken home and then rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated, and she was pronounced dead.

Satwanti Devi’s grandson, Prince Gehlawat, who owns a factory, also sustained injuries during the altercation.

In his complaint to the police, Gehlawat explained that the incident occurred around 10:15 PM as he was heading home after work. While navigating the waterlogged road, his vehicle unintentionally splashed rainwater onto a car coming from the opposite direction. This led to a confrontation in which Gehlawat was compelled to stop, resulting in a physical altercation.Gehlawat stated that the dispute was resolved after he apologized to the other motorist. However, the situation took a turn when a Maruti Fronx arrived and blocked the road. Its occupants were displeased with how Gehlawat had splashed water on their SUV.A preliminary investigation has revealed that Satwanti Devi had no visible injuries. The exact cause of her death is pending confirmation through the postmortem report. The police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including voluntarily causing hurt, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and common intention.

One of the suspects, identified as Honey, has been arrested. He runs a small factory. The police are actively searching for the remaining suspects involved in this tragic road rage incident.
