Netflix’s latest spy-action comedy Back In Action has finally hit the streaming platform, marking Cameron Diaz’s much-awaited return to acting after a decade-long break. Also featuring Jamie Foxx, the film follows the story of a married couple Emily (Diaz) and Matt (Foxx), who are forced into the world of espionage, this time with their children in the picture. While the couple manages to resolve the case at the end, it is that one last twist that has seemingly set the stage for a sequel, leaving fans even more curious.

The buzz around the sequel stemmed from an ending sequence when Emily and her husband receive a surprise visit from former colleague Baron with another job for the duo. “We’re not going back to work, Baron. That was a one-time unplanned deal,” Emily says in the scene in which Baron explains the seriousness of the situation and explains that he needs help from Emily and one of her family members to find Chucky’s body.

As Emily makes a mention of her mother Ginny, an MI6 vet played by Glenn Close, further adding that her mother would be thrilled to join for the next mission, Baron eventually drops the bomb with, “It’s not your mom; it’s your dad,” leaving everyone astonished. Considering that Emily’s father was never mentioned before the particular moment, fans were left speculating if the makers are in for another follow-up in the future.

Back In Action Director Teases Sequel

Back in Action director Seth Gordon recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly and opened up about the possibilities of a sequel and the cliffhanger ending in the film. “There’s certainly an idea about who the dad could be and what the whole story could be about. They (Netflix) won’t even acknowledge the idea of a sequel yet! So if you put in a good word, maybe there’s a chance,” he teased.

During this while, Gordon also hinted that the potential sequel could bring Emily and Matt’s children Alice and Leo to the centre stage, focusing on how their teenage lives would come in conflict with the spy background. “I feel like there’s a few opportunities or landmarks that we can build on from their lives,” he added.

Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx’s Back in Action is currently streaming on Netflix, already hitting 46.8 million views in the opening weekend.
